Whipping up nutritious gummy bears at home turns a classic kid-favorite into a wholesome snack option. In just 15 minutes with only two key ingredients, you'll create tasty gummies free from corn syrup and artificial additives - simply pure fruit combined with protein-packed gelatin.

After making batch after batch, I've figured out that nailing the juice-to-gelatin ratio and watching the temperature closely are the real tricks to perfect gummies. My kids now ask for these instead of the store-bought kind!

Key Components

  • Unflavored Gelatin: Gives them shape and adds protein
  • Pure Fruit Juice: Delivers natural sweetness
  • Fresh Fruit Puree (optional): Boosts nutritional value
  • Honey: Sweetens things up when needed

Step-By-Step Guide

Get Everything Ready (5 minutes):
Pour juice into your pan. Set molds on a baking sheet. Clear your counter for easy work. For puree options, blend your fruit until it's smooth.
Mix With Gelatin (3-4 minutes):
Warm juice on medium-low. Slowly add gelatin while whisking. Keep stirring until it's all dissolved. Don't let it get too hot. The mix should feel warm to touch.
Fill Your Molds (5 minutes):
Pour your mixture into the molds quickly. Don't wait too long or it'll start setting. Don't fill them too full. Tap them lightly to get air bubbles out. Wipe up any spills right away.
Let Them Set (15 minutes):
Put molds in the freezer. Carry them carefully so they stay flat. Use a timer so they don't freeze solid. Check them after 15 minutes. Take them out once they're firm.

Yield: 24 gummies

Ingredients

→ Main Ingredients

01 1 cup of pure fruit juice (or use ⅔ cup fruit puree mixed with ⅓ cup of pure juice)
02 8 teaspoons of high-quality gelatin from grass-fed sources
03 2 tablespoons of optional honey

Instructions

Step 01

Blend fresh fruit into a smooth puree if you’re using whole fruit. Measure it out in a big spouted bowl or a large measuring cup, then stir in the honey if you'd like.

Step 02

Add juice to a small pot and gently warm on low to medium heat, while stirring in the gelatin. Mix nonstop for around 3 minutes until it's fully dissolved and the liquid looks clear or foggy.

Step 03

Pour the warm gelatin-juice mixture into the fruit puree (if you’re using puree). Whisk it all until the mixture is smooth and evenly combined.

Step 04

Put a silicone mold on a tray or get an 8x8 glass dish ready. Carefully fill the molds or pan with the mixture. Don’t overdo it. Pop it into the freezer for 15 minutes to set.

Step 05

Take the molds out of the freezer and gently remove the gummies. Keep them in a container in the fridge for up to two weeks.

Notes

  1. Get all your stuff and ingredients ready ahead of time. Things move fast once you start!
  2. Taste the mixture before it sets. If it’s not sweet enough now, you won’t like the gummies either. It’s better to make it a bit sweeter upfront.

Tools You'll Need

  • Small pot
  • Silicone mold or glass dish (8x8 size)
  • Tray (if using molds)
  • Smaller measuring cup
  • Big spouted bowl or large measuring cup
  • Whisk
  • Rubber spatula
