# Ingredients:

01 - 1/2 teaspoon allspice, ground.
02 - 2 teaspoons cinnamon, ground.
03 - 1/8 teaspoon salt for frosting.
04 - 2 teaspoons ginger, ground.
05 - 3 cups plain flour.
06 - 1/4 teaspoon salt.
07 - 1/4 teaspoon baking soda.
08 - 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed.
09 - 1/2 cup shortening, softened.
10 - 6 tablespoons softened butter.
11 - 1/2 cup butter (for frosting).
12 - 1 large egg.
13 - 1/2 cup molasses.
14 - 1 tablespoon water.
15 - Royal icing to assemble pieces.
16 - 4 cups powdered sugar.
17 - 2 tablespoons milk.
18 - 1/4 teaspoon vanilla flavor.
19 - Your choice of candies to decorate.

# Instructions:

01 - Cut out paper shapes for the gingerbread house.
02 - Mix together salt, soda, flour, and spices using a whisk.
03 - Cream butter and sugar first. Add the egg, molasses, and water, then mix in the dry stuff.
04 - Split dough into portions, wrap and keep it chilled for a couple hours or even a few days.
05 - Flatten dough between parchment to 1/4 inch thick and cut out the house parts.
06 - Cook at 350°F—house parts for 18-20 minutes, chimney pieces for 12-13 minutes.
07 - Stick the wall sections together with icing, then wait an hour before doing the roof.
08 - Stick on the roof bits with icing, and pop on a chimney if you'd like.
09 - Allow the structure to harden for 4 to 6 hours before getting creative with decorations.
10 - Beat together butter and shortening, then mix in sugar, milk, vanilla, and a dash of salt.
11 - Dress it up with sugar icing, candies, and any buttercream designs you want.

# Notes:

01 - Cool completely for a few hours before adding decorations.
02 - You can work on it in steps ahead of time.
03 - Rolling out dough works best using parchment on top and bottom.
