Pour out all the liquid from the salmon can. Move the fish to a bowl and mash it up with a fork until it looks flaky.

Toss the onion, cornmeal, flour, mayonnaise, chili powder, egg, salt, and pepper into the bowl with the salmon. Stir it all up until you’ve got a nice, even mixture.

Scoop the mixture and pat it into burger-like shapes. Use a measuring cup to help if you want them all the same size.

Warm a skillet with oil over medium heat. Cook each patty for around 5 minutes on each side, or until they’ve got a golden and crispy outside.
