Cozy Baked Apples (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Baking the Apples

01 - 6 regular-sized baking apples (try Rome Beauty, Braeburn, McIntosh, Granny Smith, Fuji, Jonagold, or Golden Delicious)
02 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
03 - 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
04 - 1/3 cup raisins or dried cranberries
05 - 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg, finely grated
06 - 3 tablespoons butter, unsalted
07 - 1 cup water, heated up
08 - 1/4 cup finely chopped walnuts (optional)

→ Topping Suggestions

09 - Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (unsweetened)
10 - Caramel drizzle

# Instructions:

01 - Set your oven to 375°F. In a small dish, mix together the brown sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Stir in the raisins or cranberries.
02 - Slice out the cores from the apples, but make sure the bottoms don’t get pierced. Put them standing up in a casserole dish without letting them lean on each other.
03 - Spoon the filling into the apple cores. Add a piece of butter (1/2 tablespoon) on top of each one, and sprinkle over walnuts if you’re using them. Scatter any leftover cinnamon mixture around the dish.
04 - Pour the hot water into the casserole dish. Put it in the oven and bake for 45 to 60 minutes at 375°F. The apples should soften up but still hold their shape—this depends on the type and size you picked.

# Notes:

01 - These warm apples have the same sweet-spiced flavor as pie filling and are great with or without toppings like cream or caramel.
02 - Crisp, firm, tangy apples work best to keep everything from getting too soft.
